Hi, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 2 National Values Education. In our previous lesson, we learned about how political parties are formed. Today, we’re going to learn about the problems created by bad political leaders.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Identify and list problems caused by bad political leaders.
- Express feelings about the impact of bad political leaders on their community.
- Discuss the causes of these problems in small groups.
Problems Created By Bad Political Leaders
What is a political leader? A political leader is someone who is chosen to make decisions and guide a country or community. But sometimes, leaders make bad choices that hurt people. These are called bad political leaders.
There are many problems that can happen when bad political leaders are in charge. Some of these problems include:
- Corruption: Bad leaders might take money that should be used for things like building schools and hospitals and use it for themselves. This is called corruption, and it means that important things don’t get done.
- Poor Infrastructure: When leaders don’t manage money well, roads, schools, and hospitals might not be built properly or kept in good condition. This makes it hard for people to get around, learn, and stay healthy.
- Unemployment: Bad leaders might not create enough jobs for people, making it difficult for people to find work and earn a living.
- Insecurity: Without good leadership, there might be more crime and violence, making people feel unsafe in their own communities.
- Economic Problems: Bad decisions by leaders can make the country’s economy weak, making it harder for people to buy food, clothes, and other things they need.
Causes of These Problems
Why do bad political leaders cause these problems? There are a few reasons:
- Greed: Some leaders might be greedy and want to keep all the money for themselves, even if it means taking it from others.
- Lack of Planning: Leaders who don’t plan well might waste money and resources, making it harder to solve problems.
- Nepotism: Some leaders might give jobs to their friends and family, even if they aren’t the best people for the job. This can lead to poor service and wasted resources.
- Lack of Accountability: If leaders aren’t held responsible for their actions, they might continue to make bad decisions.
- Ignorance: Some leaders might not understand their roles or the problems facing their community, leading to poor decisions.
