Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 1 Basic Science and Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Simple Machines: Meaning of simple machines. Today, we’re going to learn about Movement.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Define movement.
- Demonstrate some techniques in locomotor movement.
Movement
What is Movement? (make this a h4 heading) Movement is when something changes its position or place. It can be a simple action like walking or running, or a more complex movement like dancing or playing sports.
Techniques In Locomotor Movement
Locomotor movement
Locomotor movements are movements that involve traveling from one place to another. Some of these movements include:
- Walking: Walking is a basic locomotor movement where we move our legs in a rhythmic pattern, taking one step after another. We use our feet to push off the ground and propel ourselves forward.
- Running: Running is a faster form of walking where we take longer strides and lift our feet higher off the ground. We use more energy and momentum to move quickly.
- Jumping: Jumping involves propelling ourselves off the ground with both feet and landing on both feet. We can jump in different directions, such as forward, backward, or sideways.
- Hopping: Hopping is similar to jumping, but we use only one foot to propel ourselves off the ground and land on the same foot. We can hop on either foot, or alternate between feet.
- Crawling: Crawling is a movement where we use our hands and knees to move along the ground. It’s a great way to explore small spaces and develop our motor skills.
- Skipping: Skipping is a fun locomotor movement that involves a combination of hopping and stepping. We hop on one foot, then step with the other foot, and repeat the pattern.
These movements help us to explore our environment and engage in physical activities.
Evaluation:
Now that you’ve learned about Movement, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is movement?
- Give three examples of locomotor movements.
- How is walking different from running?
- What are some of the benefits of engaging in locomotor movements?
- Can you think of any animals that use different types of locomotor movements?
Conclusion
Today, we learned about movement and different types of locomotor movements. Remember, movement is an important part of our lives, and it helps us to stay healthy and active. Don’t forget to check the comments section if you have any questions, and use the navigation to move to the next lesson. See you in the next lesson!
