The Kano State Government has officially postponed the resumption of both primary and secondary schools for the 2024/2025 academic session. This announcement came on Saturday via a statement issued by Balarabe Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education.
According to Kiru, the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, explained that the postponement was prompted by some urgent but undisclosed reasons. While specifics were not shared, Doguwa emphasized that the delay is in the best interest of creating a more conducive learning environment for students. The Ministry is expected to announce a new resumption date soon.
“This is due to some urgent reasons that will help in improving the provision of a conducive learning atmosphere for our children,” Kiru quoted Doguwa as saying.
Parents, students, and school staff have been urged to be patient and understanding of the delay, acknowledging any inconvenience the postponement may cause.
The decision has raised questions about the preparation and readiness of schools to welcome students back for the new academic year. With infrastructure challenges and resource needs often cited as reasons for delayed school openings, it is hoped that the government will address these pressing issues promptly to ensure a smooth resumption when the new date is set.
