The Edo State Government has indefinitely postponed the resumption of all public and private schools in the state due to the recent hike in fuel prices. The decision was announced in a memo by Ojo Akin-Longe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, on Saturday in Benin.
Originally scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2024, the resumption date has now been suspended until further notice. The government cited rising tensions and challenges faced by parents and guardians as reasons for the postponement.
“The Edo State Government hereby announces the postponement of the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo State, originally scheduled for Monday, 9th September 2024, until further notice,” the statement read.
The government also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children during this period, given the heightened concerns resulting from the fuel price increase.
