Delta State has announced a shift in the school resumption schedule due to the upcoming 8th edition of the National Youth Games. All public and private primary and secondary schools across the state are set to resume on Monday, September 9, 2024, except those in Oshimili South Local Government Area, where classes will start on Monday, September 23, 2024.
The postponement for schools in Asaba and its environs is due to the National Youth Games, which will be held from September 9 to 19, 2024. Several schools in Asaba, including West End Mixed Secondary School and Government Model Secondary School, will be used as venues and hostels for the event.
Boarders are required to return by Sunday, September 8, 2024. For schools outside Asaba, classes will commence on September 9, 2024, following a cleaning of the premises by students under the guidance of their teachers.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Augustine Oghoro, emphasized that schools must adhere to the revised schedule. The Ministry will conduct resumption tests for learners on September 12, 2024, which will contribute to their assessment.
The statement urged school heads and teachers to comply with the new directive and reminded parents to prepare their children for the upcoming academic term.
