Hello, everyone! Welcome to our Christian Religion Studies class for Primary 3. In our previous lesson, we learned about the Works of the Holy Spirit. Today, we will learn an important topic: The Story of Jesus’ Ascension & The Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Define Ascension
- Narrate the stories of the ascension of Jesus
- State when and how Jesus will return
- List how we can prepare for The second coming of Jesus Christ
Understanding Ascension
Ascension is a word that describes the act of going up into the sky. When we say someone ascends, it means they are rising or going higher. In the Bible, ascension refers to the event when Jesus went up into heaven after He rose from the dead. This significant event happened forty days after Easter. Jesus ascended into the clouds in front of His disciples (Acts 1:9-11).
The Story of Jesus’ Ascension
After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent forty days teaching His disciples about God’s kingdom. Then, while they were all together, Jesus was lifted up into the sky until a cloud hid Him from their sight. Angels appeared and told the disciples that Jesus would come back in the same way they saw Him go (Acts 1:9-11).
Memory Verse
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect .
Matthew 24:44, ESV
The second coming of Jesus Christ
Jesus promised to come back one day. He will return with glory to gather all His followers. The Bible says,
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him .
1 Corinthians 15:22-23, NIV
This means Jesus will come back for everyone who believes in Him.
Jesus will return in the following order
- Jesus will descend from heaven: He will come down with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
- The dead in Christ will rise first: Believers who have died will rise from their graves to meet Jesus first (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
- Believers who are alive will join: Those who are still alive and believe in Jesus will be caught up together with the resurrected saints in the clouds to meet the Lord in the sky (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
How to Prepare for The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
We can prepare for Jesus’ returns by:
- Loving God and Others: Jesus said the most important thing is to love God with all our heart and love others (Matthew 22:37-39).
- Doing Good Deeds: We should help others and be kind, just like Jesus taught (Matthew 25:35-36).
- Praying and Reading the Bible: Talking to God and learning from the Bible helps us grow closer to Him (1 Thessalonians 5:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
- Living Holy Lives: We should try our best to live like Jesus and follow His teachings (1 Peter 1:15-16).
- Sharing the Good News: Jesus wants us to tell others about Him so they can be ready too (Matthew 28:19-20).
- Being Watchful and Ready: We should always be ready for Jesus’ return, like a servant waiting for his master (Matthew 24:42-44).
Jesus is coming again soon, and we want to be ready! Let’s remember to love, help others, pray, live holy lives, share the good news, and stay watchful as we wait for His return.
