Good day, students! In our last lesson, we talked about the importance of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Today, we are going to learn about a special promise that Jesus made to His followers. This promise is very important for us as Christians because it helps us understand how God continues to be with us today.
Our lesson today is about “The Promise of the Comforter”. By the end of this lesson, you will understand who the Holy Spirit is, why Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to us, and how the Holy Spirit helps us in our daily lives. Let’s get started!
The Person of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead, which means He is one of the three persons of God. The other two are God the Father and God the Son (Jesus Christ). The Holy Spirit is also called “The Comforter” and is just as important and powerful as the Father and the Son.
Definition
The Holy Spirit is God’s Spirit, who lives in us and helps us live in a way that pleases God.
Memory Verse
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Acts 1:8
Bible Reference: Acts 1:8 and John 14:16.
Think about how water, ice, and steam are all forms of H2O. They look different, but they are all the same thing. Similarly, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all different forms of the same God.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
Jesus knew that after He went back to heaven, His followers would need help to continue spreading His teachings and living good lives. So, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with them. This promise is found in John 14:16, where Jesus says, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
Definition
The word “Helper” here means someone who gives support, and it is another name for the Holy Spirit.
Bible Reference:
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.
John 14:16
Imagine if your best friend was moving away, but they promised to send you a special friend who would always be with you to help you. That is what Jesus did for us with the Holy Spirit.
The Role of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit has many roles in our lives. He helps us understand God’s Word, gives us strength to do what is right, and comforts us when we are sad or scared. This is why the Holy Spirit is also called the Comforter.
Definition
The Comforter is another name for the Holy Spirit because He comforts us and helps us feel better when we are upset.
When you are feeling sad or scared, and someone gives you a big hug and tells you everything will be okay, they are comforting you. The Holy Spirit does this for us in our hearts.
The Holy Spirit in Our Lives
The Holy Spirit is very active in our lives today. He helps us pray, understand the Bible, and share God’s love with others. When we feel lost or confused, the Holy Spirit guides us and shows us the right way to go.
Bible Reference:
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 14:26
Think of the Holy Spirit like a GPS that helps you find your way when you are lost. He guides us and shows us the best path to take in life.
