Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 1 Basic Science and Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Moving Our Body Parts – Kicking and Striking. Today, we’re going to learn about Moving our body parts.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate correct running and pushing.
- Identify safety rules in running and pushing.
- Identify techniques in running and pushing.
Moving Our Body Parts – Running and Pushing
Running:
Running is a physical activity where we move our legs quickly. We should run with our back straight, arms swinging by our sides, and looking ahead.
Techniques for Running:
- We must always maintain an upright posture while running. Keep your back straight and your head facing forward.
- We should swing our arms naturally in synchronization with our leg movement.
Pushing:
Pushing is a forceful action to move something away. When pushing, we need to keep our back straight, and apply force on the object we are trying to push.
Techniques for Pushing:
- Hand push: always place your hands on the object you want to push, applying force through your palms. Keep your back straight and use your legs to assist in generating power.
- Shoulder push: Lean into the object with your shoulder and use your body weight to exert force.
- Leg Push: Position yourself behind the object and use your legs to push against it.
Safety rules in running and pushing
- When running always keep your eyes forward and be aware of your surroundings. Look out for obstacles or uneven surfaces on your running path.
- Before pushing an object, check its weight and stability. Make sure you can handle it safely and that it won’t tip over or cause injury.
Evaluation:
Now that you’ve learned about moving our body parts, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What are the safety rules in running?
- Describe the correct running posture.
- Explain the concept of pushing.
- Give two examples of pushing techniques.
Conclusion
