Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 4 Basic Science. In our previous lesson, we learned about Changes in Plant. Today, we’re going to learn about changes in animals.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Explain the growth in animals.
- Explain the changes in insects.
Changes in Animals
Animals go through various changes as they grow and develop. These changes are part of their life cycle. Let’s look at two important aspects of changes in animals:
- Life Cycle of Insects:
- Insects like butterflies undergo a fascinating transformation known as metamorphosis.
- The life cycle of a butterfly consists of four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and adult.
- Eggs are laid by adult butterflies on plants. From these eggs, tiny caterpillars hatch.
- Caterpillars eat and grow rapidly during the larval stage.
- When they are fully grown, caterpillars form a chrysalis (pupa), where they undergo a remarkable change.
- Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar transforms into an adult butterfly.
- The adult butterfly emerges from the chrysalis and can fly, lay eggs, and start the cycle again.
- Growth in Animals:
- All animals start their lives as young ones and gradually grow into adults.
- Young animals may look different from the adults and have specific needs.
- They grow by eating and getting nutrients from food.
- As they grow, they go through various stages of development.
- Over time, they change in size, shape, and behavior.
- Eventually, they become mature adults capable of reproducing and taking care of themselves.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about changes in animals, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- Can you describe the four stages of a butterfly’s life cycle?
- What are some examples of changes that animals go through as they grow?
- Why is it important to understand the life cycles of different animals?
- How do animals grow and develop?
- What are some differences between young animals and adult animals?
Conclusion
We’ve learned that animals go through changes throughout their lives. These changes are part of their natural growth and development. Remember, understanding the life cycles of animals helps us appreciate the diversity of life on Earth. Keep exploring the amazing world of animals and continue learning about their fascinating transformations! See you in the next lesson!
