Hi, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 3 Basic Science & Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about the importance of water. Today, we’re going to learn about Water Quality, Contaminated Water, and Potable Water.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to: * Define potable water. * Define contaminated water. * Observe and describe samples of contaminated water and clean water.
Water Quality, Contaminated Water, and Potable Water
Water is essential for life. We use it for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and many other activities. But not all water is safe to use.
What is Potable Water?
Potable water is water that is safe to drink and use for other activities without causing harm. It is clean and free from harmful substances. Potable water is often treated to remove impurities and harmful microorganisms.
What is Contaminated Water?
Contaminated water is dirty, impure, and unsafe for drinking or daily use. It may contain harmful substances like germs and chemicals. Contaminated water can make you sick.
Observing Water Samples
We will be observing different water samples today. Some of these samples will be clean, some will be dirty, and some will be muddy. We will use our senses to observe the water samples and describe what we see.
Class Discussion
We will discuss the qualities of potable water and why it’s essential for drinking and other activities. We will also discuss why contaminated water is harmful.
Labeling Water Samples
We will label each water sample as “potable,” “contaminated,” or “dirty” based on our observations and the discussion.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about water quality, contaminated water, and potable water, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is potable water?
- What is contaminated water?
- Describe a situation where you used clean water.
- Why is it important to use clean water? 5. What are some ways to prevent water contamination?
Conclusion
Today, we learned about the different types of water and the importance of using clean water. Remember, clean water is essential for our health. We should always try to use clean water for drinking, cooking, and other activities.
