Hi, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 1 Pre-vocational Studies, Agricultural Science theme. In our previous lesson, we learned about Air and it’s uses (II) Uses of Air. Today, we’re going to learn about Water and its uses.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- List the various sources of water.
Water and its uses
What is Water?
Water is a clear and colorless liquid that is essential for life. It is found in many forms, such as rivers, lakes, oceans, and even in the air we breathe. Water is vital for all living things, including plants, animals, and humans. We need water to drink, to grow food, and to keep our bodies healthy.
Sources of Water
There are many sources of water, and they are all important for our lives. Some of these sources include:
- Rivers: Rivers are flowing bodies of water that usually start in mountains and flow into lakes, oceans, or other rivers. They are a major source of water for drinking, irrigation, and transportation.
- Lakes: Lakes are large bodies of water that are surrounded by land. They are often formed by glaciers, rivers, or volcanic activity. Lakes are a source of water for drinking, fishing, and recreation.
- Rain: Rain is water that falls from the sky in the form of drops. It is a major source of water for plants, animals, and humans. Rain is also important for replenishing rivers, lakes, and groundwater.
- Wells: Wells are holes that are dug into the ground to reach groundwater. Groundwater is water that is stored underground in rocks and soil. Wells are a source of water for drinking, irrigation, and industrial use.
- Taps: Taps are faucets that are connected to water pipes. Water pipes carry water from sources like rivers, lakes, and wells to our homes and businesses. Taps provide us with clean and safe water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about Water and its uses, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is water?
- Name three sources of water?
- What are some ways we use water in our daily lives?
- Why is water important for living things? 5. What are some things we can do to conserve water?
Conclusion
Water is essential for life and we use it in many ways. We learned about the different sources of water and how important it is to conserve this precious resource.
