Hi, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 2 Cultural And Creative Arts. In our previous lesson, we learned about Songs. Today, we’re going to learn about Story Telling.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Understand what a story is and identify its key elements.
- Appreciate the importance and enjoyment of storytelling.
- Attempt to create simple stories using basic elements of storytelling.
- Participate in group storytelling activities, enhancing teamwork and communication skills.
Story Telling
A story is a way of sharing adventures, experiences, and lessons with others, using words and actions. It’s like a journey we take with characters, exploring their world and learning from their experiences.
What is a Story?
A story is a sequence of events that happen to characters in a specific setting. It’s like a puzzle where each piece fits together to create a complete picture.
Elements of a Story
There are several key elements that make up a story. These elements work together to create a compelling and engaging narrative.
Characters
Characters are the people, animals, or even objects that take part in the story. They are the ones who experience the events and drive the plot forward. Some of the main characters in stories are:
- The hero: The main character who often faces challenges and overcomes obstacles.
- The villain: The character who opposes the hero and creates conflict.
- The sidekick: A character who helps the hero and provides support.
Setting
The setting is the time and place where the story takes place. It can be a real place, like a school or a forest, or an imaginary place, like a magical kingdom. The setting helps us understand the characters and their actions.
Plot
The plot is the sequence of events that happen in the story. It’s like a roadmap that guides us through the story’s journey. The plot usually includes:
- Exposition: The beginning of the story where we are introduced to the characters and setting.
- Rising action: The events that build up to the climax of the story.
- Climax: The most exciting or important part of the story, where the conflict reaches its peak.
- Falling action: The events that happen after the climax, leading to the resolution.
- Resolution: The end of the story, where the conflict is resolved and loose ends are tied up.
Conflict
Conflict is the main problem that the characters face in the story. It’s what creates tension and keeps us interested. Conflict can be between characters, between a character and nature, or between a character and themselves.
Resolution
The resolution is how the conflict is solved at the end of the story. It’s the outcome of the events and the final state of the characters. The resolution can be happy, sad, or bittersweet.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about Story Telling, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What are the main elements of a story?
- Can you name a story you like and tell us about its setting?
- What is the conflict in the story you created in your group?
- How did the conflict in the story you created get resolved? 5. What is the difference between a hero and a villain?
