Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 1 Basic Science and Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Definition and Description of Computer. Today, we’re going to learn about the different parts of a computer.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Identify parts of a computer.
- List 3 parts of a computer.
Parts of a Computer
A computer has different parts that work together to make it function. These parts are like the different organs in our body, each with a specific job. Some of the major parts of a computer include:
- Monitor: The monitor is like a television screen that displays information. It shows us what we are working on.
- Keyboard: The keyboard is used to type letters, numbers, and symbols. It’s like a typewriter that lets us enter information into the computer.
- Mouse: The mouse is a pointing device that helps us move around in the screen. It is used to control the cursor on the screen. You can click, drag, and scroll with it.
- System Unit (SU): This is the main part of the computer that houses the brain (C.P.U), memory, and storage. It’s like the heart of the computer, keeping everything running.
- Microphone: This allows you to speak into the computer, like a voice recorder.
- Speaker: This plays sounds from the computer, like a music player.
- Web Camera: This lets you see and be seen on the computer, like a video camera.
- Power Supply Unit (PSU): This provides power to the computer, like a battery.
- Printer: The printer produces hard copies of documents. It lets us print out our work on paper.
- USB Ports: USB ports are small slots that connect external devices to the computer. We can plug in things like flash drives, printers, and cameras.
- Joystick: This is a handheld controller used for playing games, like a steering wheel for a car.
- Light Pen: This is a pen-like device used to draw or select items on the screen, like a digital pencil.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about the parts of a computer, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is the name of the screen that shows you what you are working on?
- What do we call the part of the computer that you use to type letters and numbers?
- Can you name three parts of a computer?
Conclusion
Today, we learned about the different parts of a computer and how they work together. Remember, each part is important for the computer to function properly. Keep exploring and learning about computers, and you’ll be amazed at what they can do! See you in the next lesson!
