HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS is a disease that can make people very sick. HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a tiny germ that can get into our bodies and make us weak.
What is HIV/AIDS?
HIV/AIDS is a disease that weakens the immune system, making it difficult for the body to fight off infections and diseases. This can lead to serious health problems and even death if not properly managed.
Dangers of HIV/AIDS
There are several dangers associated with HIV/AIDS, including:
- Weakened Immune System: HIV attacks and destroys the body’s immune cells, making it vulnerable to infections and diseases.
- Opportunistic Infections: When the immune system is weakened, people with HIV/AIDS are more susceptible to infections that healthy people can easily fight off. These infections are called opportunistic infections.
- Serious Health Problems: HIV/AIDS can lead to various health problems, such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and certain types of cancer.
- Transmission: HIV can be transmitted through contact with infected blood, such as sharing needles or getting a blood transfusion with infected blood. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person.
- Mother-to-Child Transmission: HIV can be transmitted from a pregnant woman to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.
