Different Ways Of Greeting
What is greeting? Greeting is a way of showing respect and acknowledging someone. It’s a common practice in all cultures, and it helps us build relationships with others.
There are many different ways to greet people, and these ways can vary depending on the culture, age, and relationship between the people involved. In Nigeria, there are many different ethnic groups, each with their unique way of greeting.

Some of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria include:
- Yoruba: Greet by prostrating for elders (males) and kneeling (females).
- Hausa: Greet with a slight bow and handshake, saying “Ina kwana.”
- Igbo: Greet by clasping their hands together and bowing slightly, saying “Kedu.”
- Ijaw: Greet with a handshake, placing the left hand on the right forearm to show respect.
