Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 2 Basic Science Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Basic Skills In Basketball. Today, we’re going to learn about Basic Skills in Swimming.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- List two basic skills in swimming.
- Show enjoyment and willingness to participate in swimming activities.
- Demonstrate the basic arm and leg movements used in swimming.
- Work together in pairs to practice swimming movements.
Basic Skills in Swimming
Swimming is a valuable skill that can save lives and enhance coordination, balance, and fitness. It involves various skills to stay above and move in water.
What is Swimming?
Swimming is the act of moving through water by using your arms and legs. It’s a great way to exercise and have fun!
Some of the basic skills in swimming includes:
- Breaststroke: This skill involves moving your arms in a circular motion while kicking your legs like a frog.
- Butterfly Stroke: In this skill, the swimmer moves both arms together in a windmill motion while performing a dolphin-like kick with their legs.
- Backstroke: The swimmer lies on their back and moves their arms in a windmill motion while flutter kicking their legs.
- Freestyle (Front Crawl): In this skill, swimmers alternate their arms in an overhead motion while kicking their legs up and down.
- Dog Paddle: This skill requires the swimmer to keep their head above water and paddle their hands and feet like a dog swimming.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about basic swimming skills, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What are the two basic swimming skills we learned today?
- Why is it important to practice swimming skills?
- Can you describe the arm movements used in the breaststroke?
- What is the difference between the butterfly stroke and the backstroke?
- How is the dog paddle different from the other swimming skills?
Conclusions or Summary
We learned that swimming is an important skill that can be fun and safe. We also learned about some basic swimming skills, such as the breaststroke, butterfly stroke, backstroke, freestyle, and dog paddle. Remember to practice these skills with a friend or adult in a safe environment. Don’t forget to check the comments section if you have any questions, and use the navigation to move to the next lesson. See you in the next lesson!
