Hi, students! Welcome back to Primary 4 Basic Science And Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Moving Our Body Parts – II. Today, we’re going to learn about Moving Our Body Parts.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate locomotor movements such as sliding, hopping, jumping, and leaping.
Moving Our Body Parts
Moving our body parts is a fundamental part of physical activity. It helps us to move around, play games, and stay healthy. There are many different ways to move our body parts, and each movement has its own unique name and purpose.
What are Locomotor Movements?
Locomotor movements are movements that allow us to move from one place to another. They involve the use of our legs and feet to move our bodies. Some of the most common locomotor movements include:
- Walking: Moving forward by taking steps with alternating feet.
- Running: Moving faster than walking, with both feet leaving the ground at times.
- Jumping: Pushing off the ground with both feet and landing with both feet.
- Leaping: Pushing off the ground with one foot and landing on the other foot.
- Hopping: Jumping on one foot and landing on the same foot.
- Skipping: A combination of hopping and stepping, with one foot always in the air.
- Galloping: A running movement with one foot always in front of the other.
- Sliding: Moving smoothly across a surface, like on a slippery floor.
Sliding
Sliding is a movement where you move smoothly and quietly across a surface. It’s like gliding or moving without lifting your feet. You can slide on a slippery floor in your socks, or on a playground slide.
Hopping
Hopping is a quick, small jump where you jump off the ground using one foot and then quickly land on the same foot. It’s like a little bounce. You can hop on one foot or alternate between feet.
Jumping
Jumping is when you push off the ground with both feet and go up into the air. You use both feet to jump and then land with both feet. You can jump straight up, jump forward, or jump sideways.
Leaping
Leaping is like a big jump where you push off the ground with one foot and land on the other foot. It’s a bit like jumping, but you land on just one foot. You can leap forward, backward, or sideways.
Evaluation
Now that you’ve learned about moving our body parts, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- Can you name three locomotor movements?
- What is the difference between jumping and leaping?
- Why is it important to practice locomotor movements?
Conclusion
Today, we learned about locomotor movements and how they help us move our bodies. Remember to practice these movements regularly to improve your coordination and physical fitness. Don’t forget to check the comments section if you have any questions, and use the navigation to move to the next lesson. See you in the next lesson!
