Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 4 National Values Education. In our previous lesson, we learned about the importance of government. Today, we’re going to learn about Identifying Government At Different Levels.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Identify various levels of government.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of each level of government.
Different Levels Of Government
There are three main levels of government in most countries:
- Local Government: This level of government is the closest to the people. It typically includes municipalities, towns, or cities. Local government is responsible for managing local issues, such as schools, sanitation, local law enforcement, and public services within a specific area. For example, your local council might be responsible for collecting garbage, maintaining parks, and organizing community events.
- State or Regional Government: This level of government oversees larger regions within a country. It has authority over matters that affect the entire state or region, including education, transportation, healthcare, and some legal matters. In some countries, states are also known as provinces or regions. For example, the state government might be responsible for building roads, regulating businesses, and providing healthcare services to its citizens.
- Federal Government: The federal government is the highest level of government and has authority over the entire country. It is responsible for national defense, foreign affairs, currency and monetary policy, and other matters that affect the entire nation. The federal government often has a constitution or central law that guides the governance of the entire country. For example, the federal government might be responsible for issuing passports, negotiating treaties with other countries, and collecting taxes.
