Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 1 Basic Science Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Things Which Makes Sound. Today, we’re going to learn about the meaning & forms of energy.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Define energy.
- List at least three forms of energy.
- Discuss how energy is important in our daily activities.
Meaning & Forms of Energy
What is Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work. It is what makes things happen and enables us to do various activities.
Forms of energy
There are many different forms of energy, some of them include:
- Light Energy: This is the energy that we see as light. It comes from the sun, light bulbs, and other sources.
- Heat Energy: This is the energy that we feel as heat. It comes from the sun, fires, and other sources.
- Sound Energy: This is the energy that we hear as sound. It comes from vibrations in the air.
- Electrical Energy: This is the energy that we use to power our homes and appliances. It comes from power plants.
- Chemical Energy: This is the energy that is stored in the bonds of molecules. It is released when the bonds are broken. For example, the food we eat contains chemical energy.
- Mechanical Energy: This is the energy of motion. It is the energy that an object has because of its movement. For example, a moving car has mechanical energy.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about energy, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is energy?
- Can you list three forms of energy?
- How do we use energy in our daily lives?
- What are some examples of light energy?
- What are some examples of heat energy?
Conclusion or Summary
We learned that energy is the ability to do work or cause change. We also learned about different forms of energy, such as light energy, heat energy, and sound energy. Energy is important in our daily lives, and we use it in many different ways.
