Chief Obafemi Awolowo
Chief Obafemi Awolowo was born on March 6, 1909, in Ikenne, British Nigeria. He was a prominent Nigerian nationalist, politician, and statesman. Chief Awolowo played a vital role in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence and post-independence politics. He was a founding member of the Action Group (AG) political party and served as the Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria from 1954 to 1959. He was a strong advocate for regional autonomy and economic development. Chief Obafemi Awolowo died on May 9, 1987, leaving behind a lasting legacy as a key figure in Nigeria’s history.
