Hi, students! Welcome back to Primary 1 Computer Studies (Basic Science and Technology). In our previous lesson, we learned about the parts of a computer. Today, we’re going to learn about Computer Hardware and the Components.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Define computer hardware
- List different computer hardware components that make up the computer
- Draw and label the hardware components
Computer Hardware and the Components
What is Computer Hardware?
Computer hardware all the parts of a computer system we can see and touch.
Examples of Computer Hardware
There are many different types of computer hardware, and they all work together to make the computer function. Some of the most common hardware components include:
- Monitor: The screen that displays information. It’s like the computer’s “television.”
- Keyboard: A set of keys used to type in information. It’s how we “talk” to the computer.
- Mouse: A pointing device used to control the cursor on the screen. It helps us move around the computer.
- System Unit/Central Processing Unit (CPU): The “brain” of the computer. It processes all the information and instructions.
- Hard Disk: A storage device that holds all the computer’s programs and files. It’s like the computer’s “memory.”
- CD ROM Drive: A device that reads and writes information on CDs. It’s how we can store and access information on CDs.
- Speaker: A device that produces sound. It’s how we hear music and other sounds from the computer.
- Printer: A device that prints out documents and pictures. It’s how we can get our work on paper.
- Webcam: A camera that allows us to take pictures or video chat with friends. It connects to the computer for fun videos.
- Microphone: A device that captures sound. It’s how we can record our voices or talk during video calls.
- USB Flash Drive: A small device used to store and transfer files. It’s like a portable memory that we can carry around.
How Hardware Components Work Together
Each hardware component has a specific job, but they all work together to make the computer function. For example, when you type something on the keyboard, the keyboard sends the information to the CPU. The CPU processes the information and then sends it to the monitor to be displayed.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about computer hardware, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is computer hardware?
- List three computer hardware components.
- Draw and label the monitor component.
- What is the job of the CPU? 5. What is the difference between a hard disk and a CD ROM Drive?
Conclusion
Today, we learned about computer hardware and the different components that make up a computer. We also learned how these components work together to make the computer function. Remember, hardware is the physical part of the computer that we can touch and see. Keep exploring and learning about computers! See you in the next lesson!
