Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 1 Basic Science Technology. Today, we’re going to learn about Description and Definition of Computer.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- Define a computer.
- Describe a computer
Computer
What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device that accepts data as input, processes data and stores or brings out information as output. in simpler terms, we can say “A computer is an electronic machine that can take in data, process it, and give out information“. It can perform many tasks such as calculations, storing data, and displaying results.
Describing a computer
A computer works by receiving data as input through devices like the keyboard and mouse. It processes the data using its central processing unit (CPU), which acts as the brain of the computer, controlling all its functions. After processing, the computer shows the result as output on the monitor or through speakers. A computer can also store information, allowing us to save our work and access it later. The main parts of a computer include the monitor for displaying information, the keyboard for typing, and the mouse for pointing and selecting.
Evaluation Questions
Now that you’ve learned about computers, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- What is a computer?
- How does a computer receive data?
- What part of the computer processes the data?
- How does a computer show the result after processing the data?
- What is one way a computer can store information for later use?
Conclusions or Summary
Today, we learned about computers and how to describe them. Remember, computers are powerful tools that can help you learn, play, and create. Keep exploring and learning about technology!
