Hello, young learners! Welcome back to Primary 2 Basic Science & Technology. In our previous lesson, we learned about Basic Skills In Swimming. Today, we’re going to learn about demonstrating the basic skills in swimming.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
Cognitive domain: Identify different swimming strokes such as backstroke and butterfly stroke. Affective domain: Show enthusiasm and confidence while practicing swimming strokes. Social Domain: Cooperate with peers during the swimming practice and assist each other in learning strokes.
Demonstrating the basic skills in swimming
Swimming is a great way to exercise and have fun in the water. There are many different swimming strokes, but we will focus on a few basic ones today.
What are swimming strokes?
Swimming strokes are the different ways you can move your arms and legs to propel yourself through the water. Some of the most common swimming strokes include:
Breaststroke: This stroke is done by gliding forward with your arms straight and palms outward, then pulling back in a circular motion while doing a frog kick. Butterfly Stroke: This stroke is done by moving both arms in unison over your head and pushing them into the water, pulling your body forward, while performing a dolphin kick. Backstroke: This stroke is done by floating on your back, moving one arm up and then back in the water while the other arm comes up. Kick your legs up and down. Freestyle (Front Crawl): This stroke is done by moving one arm over your head into the water while the other comes back up. Kick your legs up and down. Turn your head to the side to breathe. Dog Paddle: This stroke is done by keeping your head up out of the water. Use your hands to scoop water and move forward, and kick your legs gently.
Lesson Evaluation
Now that you’ve learned about demonstrating the basic skills in swimming, let’s see if you can answer these questions:
- Name the two swimming strokes discussed today.
- Demonstrate one of the strokes learned.
- Explain one key safety rule when swimming.
- Describe how any of the strokes is done.
Conclusions or Summary
Today, we learned about demonstrating the basic skills in swimming. We discussed different swimming strokes and how to perform them. Remember to always practice swimming with a lifeguard or adult supervision. Keep practicing and you will become a better swimmer! Don’t forget to check the comments section if you have any questions, and use the navigation to move to the next lesson. See you in the next lesson!
